Socially Conscious/Fair Trade Baby Clothes
Before I dye and paint each onesie, it arrives to me as a carefully sewn garment. The other day I was wondering about the people that create my "canvas" (so to speak). I had no reason to doubt the ethics of my wholesaler, but I don't like to assume. I asked what the conditions where like in which these baby clothes are made, and I wanted to share the response I got...
"Dear Alisha,
I received your inquiry regarding the factories and conditions where our garments are produced, I appreciate your probing this issue as it is something very important to us.
We sent our company representative to inspect the factory to double check the certification that we were presented with. The goods are all produced in modern facilities, no sweatshop conditions, no child labor, decent working hours and conditions, and fair trade.
All our employees have strong family values and our collective conscience would not allow us to have our goods manufactured in unfavorable conditions."

New Baby In The Home...
I painted this onesie just the other day for a new baby living at the Magdalene Home.
The Magdalene Home is a safe nurturing environment where teenage girls, who are pregnant or parenting, can live. They provide the girls with emotional support, as well as training in life skills such as cooking, shopping, financial planning, childcare, prenatal care, and postnatal care.
When I heard about the Magdalene Home I decided that I would make a custom onesie for each baby living there. Last summer, I was actually invited to visit the home. I learned a lot about it and I could see that young women are truly given the opportunity to make a better life for themselves and I'm very excited about supporting that cause.

Let's Get Creative
Here are 3 onesies I made yesterday for Hosea, my newest baby model. Him and his parents are all the way in Scotland right now, so let's hope the onesies travel safely. :) These are all good examples of some designs you can do if you don't know the baby's name yet. "Mango" is Hosea's nickname. I'm kind of partial to the fruit nicknames, because in high school mine was "Papaya". Those were the days.... :)

New Arrivals
I really like this cute little onesie I did the other day. It's for a little -soon to be- newborn. It's orange paint on a sky blue onesie with the "cutie pie" lettering style. I love the baby turtle!

We're in Business!
Sweet and Spunky.com has been officially up and running for a little over 2 weeks! I can’t believe it. I want to thank my dear husband for supporting me, like he does with all of my crazy ideas, and I couldn’t have done it with out all of his patient computer help either. Also, thank you Allison for the photos of your beautiful baby girl! …and of course, my sister Ashley, for patiently sitting through countless conversations starting with “Ok, so what do you think about this idea…..”
